Diageo Puts the Lid on Counterfeiters

Johnnie Walker is sporting a new top that aims to crack down on whisky fraud in China, and owner Diageo plans to introduce the cap worldwide, according to a report on Australian Food Network.

The problem is so bad that half of the scotch in India in 2007 is estimated to have been fraudulent, AFN writes.

“Caps on Johnnie Walker bottles will now not return to their original position after opening and a permanent gold band appears at the top of the neck of the bottle upon opening – effectively eliminating the prospect of a disguised refill.”
