Freezer Scotch Hits Big in Scandavia — Saves Jobs in Glasgow?

The Edrington Group, makers of The Famous Grouse and The Black Grouse are hawking a wannabe cool (make that ice cold) new brand: Snow Grouse.

The Evening Times Online crows the move has been a huge hit in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, where “connoiseurs,” who love their liquor right out of the freezer, have snapped up “hundreds of bottles.” This is supposedly “helping protect hundreds of jobs in Glasgow.”

Color me skeptical.

Marketers are always looking for artificial ways to take premium products and move them downstream to a bigger mass of consumers. This rarely makes for great products. But I’ll toss a bottle in the freezer and give it a real review at the first opportunity.
