Reuters Weighs In on Diageo’s New Roseisle Distillery

Reuters provides a broad summary of the new Roseisle distillery, near Elgin on the Moray Firth coast. (We’ve been following the story and have some spy shots of the plant.)

The new distillery is part of a $185 million expansion for Diageo and comes amid a surge in worldwide demand for Scotch whisky, driven by Asia, continental Europe and the United States.

It will begin production in January, reach full capacity in April, and provide Scotch for Diageo blends such as Johnnie Walker Black Label by 2012:

Set to produce 10 million litres of spirit a year at full production, the new distillery will match the biggest in the industry such as privately-owned Glenfiddich and Pernod Ricard’s plan to double the size of its Glenlivet distillery.
